52. Eighth Commandment: You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor |
Introduction
The Gospel reveals that in the trial of Jesus before the Sanhedrin, the Jewish presented false witnesses who accused him of many things to condemn. Facing these, Jesus was silent. He only spoke when the High Priest asked him, "Are you the Messiah, the Son of God?" (Mark 14, 61). And he confessed the truth suffering many outrages and death.
The Eighth Commandment: "Thou shalt not bear false witness or lie" is very necessary, especially when relations between men are marred by so many lies, slander and false testimony.
