43. God gives us the Grace |
Introduction
According to the Acts from the Apostles, it seems to be that the first city of Europe evangelized by St. Paul was Philippi. He stayed there some days, and “that Saturday we went outside, close to the river, where we thought it was the place to pray and while we were seated, we were talking to women who were gathered. A woman called Lydia, God-fearing, who worked in Purple, city of Thyatira, she was seated and listening to. God had opened his heart to attend to what Paul said…..She was baptized with all her family” (Acts 16, 134-15). God gave her the Grace of believing in Christ, whom Paul preached; he corresponded to the Grace and was baptized with his family. He must be the first person who converted to Christianity in Europe.
The Grace is the great gift that God gives to reach eternal life. As St. Bernard says “Only we need the Grace”. In previous issues we have mentioned the Grace many times; we study it in a systematic way now.
