1. What is the virtue?

   It is said that nature is the radical principle of operations; nature, then, is not operating as such, but it does so by the powers or organs when it is corporeal nature: we see with our eyes, we hear with our ears, we known with the intelligence. If the powers and organs are exercised, they acquire stable forms of action or operating habits. if they are good, they are called virtues; if they are bad, they are vices. Therefore, virtue is a good quality that habitually perfects powers, inclining man to do good.

2. The moral virtues

   The greatest virtues are the theological virtues, which refer directly to God; but they are also important the moral virtues, which perfect the individual's behavior. If we think about how to obtein them, we have to know that some are natural or acquired virtues, if they are reached with the forces of nature; other are supernatural virtues, if God granted them. The theological virtues are always supernatural; the moral may be acquired or infuse by God.

    Man can do good things with natural forces, acquiring virtues. For example: sincerity, discretion, loyalty ... The main moral virtues are also called cardinal virtues because they are like the basis of the others: prudence, justice, fortitude and temperance.

    Prudence is the virtue that disposes practical reason to discern our true good, choosing the right means for achieving it.

    Justice is the virtue which inclines us to give God and neighbor what is due, both individually and socially.

    Fortitude is the virtue ithat ensures firmness and perseverance to do good.

    Temperance is the virtue that curbs the appetite of the sensitive pleasures and imposes restraint in the use of created goods.

    In addition to the cardinal virtues, the man must practice the other moral virtues, especially religion, humility, obedience, joy, patience, penance and chastity.

3. Natural Virtues and supernatural grace

   It is sometimes hard to live the natural virtues because after original sin men are messy and feel the inclination to sin; but God gives the grace that purifies and elevate them to a supernatural order, to help us achieve the purpose for which we are called: eternal happiness; heaven. Then the virtues, while being natural, are also supernatural.

    With the help of God, the natural virtues forge character and give facility in the practice of good. The man is happy to practice virtue.

4. The theological virtues

   Being the man elevated to the supernatural order, the natural virtues do not suffice, although they are needed; and God gives theological virtues and grace to the Christian in the moment of baptism.

    The theological virtues are faith, hope and charity.

    Faith is a supernatural virtue by which we believe the truths that God has revealed and the Church teaches.

    Hope is a supernatural virtue by which we trust that God will give us glory through his grace.

    Charity is a supernatural virtue by which we love God above all things and we also love ourselves and our neighbor for God' love.

5. Gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit

   The supernatural building is crowned with gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit. The gifts are supernatural perfections that God infuses to facilitate the exercise of the virtues, making us docile to the impetus of the Holy Spirit. They are seven: wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and fear of God.

    In addition to the gifts, there are twelve fruits of the Holy Spirit: charity, , joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, forbearance, gentleness, faith, modesty, continence and chastity.

6. Charity, supreme virtue

   Charity is the greatest virtue of all for being the first of the theological virtues, which are the supreme virtues. When we live them treally, all the virtues are animated and inspired by charity. As Saint Paul says, charity is "the bond of perfection" (Colossians 3:14), the form of all the virtues.

7. Growing up in the virtues

   The Christian who tries to live a life according to God, has the grace and the virtues, that is, with all the means to obtain the purpose of God. Consequently, with the help of God and self effort, he has to go to grow in virtue. God never gives up, and we fight just to do good and live charity, as we have said, it is to love God with all your soul.
