26. Baptism makes us children of God and members of the Church |
Introduction
After eighty years of paganism, an old man found the light of faith, he converted and was baptized. Two years later he became seriously ill; everyone realized that his death time had arrived. Someone asked him how old he was, and he said: to tell you the truth, I am only two years old. Nobody was able to understand his response, however, then the old man said: it is not a difficult thing to understand, I started living right after having been baptized; it’s like if my previous life does not exist anymore.
This anecdote may serve to introduce the study of baptism, “the sacrament of faith”, “the door of the sacraments” or “the door of the Church”, as it is known since ancient times. We must know the importance of being baptized.
