1. What is the Liturgy of the Church?  

   It is the work through which Christ glorifies the Father in the unity of the Spirit and saves men, acting as invisible Head of the Church through their ministers, to perpetuate the work of redemption of the world.

    In the liturgy, the Church exerts the public worship to God, so that every liturgical action is the work of Christ the Priest and of his Church whose effectiveness is not matched by any other action of the Church. The Liturgy is the participation in Christ's prayer and the source of life that flows from Savior.

2. The liturgy, work of the Holy Trinity

   The whole Trinity participates in the Liturgy. God the Father is worshiped and praised as a source of blessings of creation and salvation; Christ makes the glory of God and the salvation of mankind through the sacraments; the Holy Spirit, as the soul of the Church, gives life and motivates the work of Christ to bring it to the perfection.

   Although the sacraments will be touched later, we note that the liturgical life of the Church revolves around the Eucharistic sacrifice and the seven sacraments: Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Penance, Unction of the Sick, Holy Orders and Matrimony.

4. The celebration of the sacraments of the Church

   Although there are several traditions in the Church, there are some common elements in liturgical celebrations:

    a) a) Who celebrates? The liturgy is the work of Christ; so that the whole community celebrates it. All the faithful do not have the same function with respect to celebrations. In fact, some of them, consecrated by the sacrament of Holy Orders, have the power and the mission of representing Christ as Head of his Body.

    b) How to celebrate? The liturgical celebration involves signs and symbols relating to the creation (light, water, fire), to the human life and to the history of salvation (the rites of Easter). All these elements, by the action of the Holy Spirit, are bearers of the saving and sanctifying action of Christ. The Liturgy of the word is the main part of every celebration and It is also sometimes accompanied with songs and music. The sacred images that we can see in churches and homes are destined to stimulate and nurture our faith in the mystery of Christ.

    c) When celebrates? The Sunday is the main day of the celebration of the Eucharist, because it is the Day of Resurrection. During the liturgical year, the Church develops the whole mystery of Christ, from the Incarnation and Nativity to the Ascension, Pentecost and the waiting for the end of time. In the liturgical year, the Church venerates the Blessed Virgin and reminds the martyrs and other saints. The Liturgy of the Hours or Divine Office is the public prayer of the Church. Beside it are located the various prayers of God's people, especially adoration and worship of the Holy Eucharist.

    d) Where celebrates? Christ is the real temple of God and Christians. Likewise, through the grace, we are also "temples of the Holy Spirit." But the Church needs places where the community can meet: these are our churches. There, the public worship to the glory of the Holy Trinity is celebrated; we can hear the Word of God and His praises are sung; the heart rises and the sacrifice of Christ is offered. The mass and the churches are also privileged places of retreat and personal prayer.

5. We must actively participate in the liturgy of the Church

    If we have understood this lesson, we will have realized how important it is to attend liturgical celebrations of the Church and especially the Holy Mass with the utmost attention and devotion. The Church asks us to go to the celebrations consciously, actively (participating in various ceremonies) and productively.
