19. Who belongs to the Church? |
Paul the apostle compares the Christ' body (the Church) with the human body, which is one with different members. In the body of the Church, Christ is the head and the Christians are the members: those of the earth, those of the purgatory and those of the heaven. This is called the Mystical Body of Christ.
Those worldly members are different according to their position in the Church: the Pope, the bishops, the priests, the laity...However, these differences are joined together in the great family of the sons of God where everybody cooperates like a family to accomplish the mission entrusted to the Apostles: to preach the Gospel with the observance of the commandments, and to communicate the supernatural life to the souls through the sacraments. All this enables that everybody reaches the salvation in Christ.
The Christians have different missions, but all of them also have their responsibilities.
