1. Jesus Christ is the Savior

    After the sin of our first parents, Adam and Eve, man needed to be redeemed. God, in his infinite love, sent his Son to save us from our sins. Jesus Christ is the Son of God made man, who has saved us. He is the only Savior, the Redeemer of man.

2. Jesus offered a sacrifice of infinite value

    In the holy Scripture, there is a moving scene: God asks Abraham to sacrifice or kill his only son. Abraham obeys and takes Isaac with a bundle, climbing a mountain to sacrifice him. But once tested Abraham's faith, God did not permit his killing. (Gen. 22.1- 13).

    The sacrifice of Isaac is a symbol of the Passion of Christ, with the difference that God did not forgive his own Son and he died for us. Jesus accepted the Father's will for charity and obedience. He suffered so much in order to demonstrate how much he loved us and make us understand the seriousness of sin.

3. Jesus Christ, priest, made sacrifices

    In the Old Testament, the priests were responsible for offering sacrifices to God; these sacrifices were offered by all the people: sometimes fruits of the earth(wheat, wine, etc.), and other times animals.

    Jesus, Eternal Priest, offered no earthly fruits or animals, but himself. This is the greatest sacrifice in the world, because it is the sacrifice of the Son of God made man. Jesus Christ is the sacrificed Priest who offered himself on the cross.

4. Why did Jesus offer himself on the cross?

    Jesus Christ offered on the cross for four reasons:

    a) To give glory to God, his Father. The purpose of man is to glorify God. Jesus Christ, representing all men, glorified God infinitely with his passion and death.

    b) To give thanks. With his passion and death, Jesus gave thanks to God on behalf of all men.

    c) To repair the offense of sin. Men became slaves to sin and they could not be free; they had the stained soul and could not clean it. By his sacrifice, Jesus Christ broke the chains of sin: his blood cleansed the stain of sins produces in the soul. He gave His life for us so that we can live the life of grace.

    d) To ask God for what we need. Jesus Christ, offering the sacrifice of his life, makes that God the Father always hears what we ask in his name. So Christ said: "my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name... Ask and you will receive" (John 16, 23 -24).

5. The cross in the Christian life

    The Gospel teaches us that the disciple of Christ must carry the cross: "Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple” (Luke 14, 27). Jesus carried the Cross on his back to give us an example and teach us to love the sacrifice. We have to love things that are hard, offering them to Jesus.

    The cross is present not only in temples, but in many other places; It is the symbol of the Christians, that remembers the passion and death of the Lord.
