11. Jesus Christ born from Holy Virgin Mary |
Introduction
The gospel of saint Luke narrates that God sent the archangel Gabriel to Nazareth to announce Mary her election as the chosen who will be Mother of God. Many pictures depicts the scene, called Annunciation.
The conversation between the angel and the Virgin ended with these humble and confident words: 'You see before you the Lord's servant, let it happen to me as you have said.' (Luke 1,38). On that precise moment the Incarnation of the Verb in the pure womb of the Holy Virgin happened, and nine months later Jesus- true God and true man- was born.
The Virgin is not only Mother of God, she is also our Mother. When Jesus died in the cross, He gave us her mother. She lives in Heaven as Queen and Lady of the whole creation, but she sees, listens and, above all, loves us. Like the world's mothers, the Virgin takes care of us and protects us. We must know and love the one who is at the same time Mother of God and our mother.
