2. The Annunciation

 



1. The angel Gabriel appears

God sent the angel Gabriel to a young woman named Mary who was the fiancé of Joseph, a descendant of the family of David.    

The angel went into the house and said: Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women.    

When Mary heard these words, she was afraid and wondered which those words may mean.

But Mary had a question: How can I be mother if I am a virgin? But Gabriel said: The Holy Spirit is with you because for God nothing is impossible.    

Mary agreed to be the mother of Jesus and said: Behold the handmaid of the Lord, to do as you say. Then Gabriel left.

How is it possible that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as your greeting reached my ears, the baby leaped in my womb. Mary answered: I praise the Lord that has done wonders for me.    

Mary was helping Elizabeth for three months until she had a child who was called John. At that time Zacharias recovered his speech and Mary returned to her home in Nazareth.
